Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced Friday that $100 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding will go toward the city’s affordable housing initiatives and other related projects.
This is now the largest allocation of ARPA funds by the mayor for housing and homeless initiatives and brings the total count of money dedicated to tackling housing insecurity to a near $200 million.
“Today’s announcement builds on our efforts to increase housing stability by focusing on protecting Baltimore homeowners and renters, preserving housing gains and preventing blight,” said Scott said.
This all comes part of his 30-day directive to address Baltimore’s vacant housing stock, which recently account more than 15,000 vacant houses in the city, WBAL reports.
The funds will be dispersed into three types of housing investments including strategic capital investments, blight elimination and prevention and resident protection and anti-displacement.
